Cake Smash & 1st Birthday Photos

I’m so excited to share this session with you!  This cake smash took place at the Center for Urban Horticulture, one of my favorite locations in NE Seattle. Much of the Center for Urban Horticulture was in bloom and beautiful. I just love Spring in Seattle.  They hadn’t trimmed the foliage back yet so it was a photographers paradise.  The grounds were lush with buttercups, long grass and purple wildflowers. 

We started out with some pre-cake smash photos to document this little guys 1st birthday. I had the perfect spot in mind, the beautiful wooden walkway on the east side of the grounds.   The area is called the Yesler Swamp, they have their own website if you are interested in learning more. The walkways leading lines framed the family in perfectly.

We then moved to an area where he could show us his new found ability to stand. His parents brought along his favorite radio flyer wagon. The wagon created the perfect support for this pre-walker. I loved the pop of red it added to our photo session.  He was so proud standing and holding on to the wagon. I love when little ones light up naturally while showing off new skills. He also got to hop in for a quick spin courtesy of Dad.  You can see in the photos that he LOVED that.

Then we moved to an amazing open field for the cake smash! I had brought along my yellow antique highchair, which matched the buttercups and purple flowers to a tee. I couldn’t have asked for a better spot. The golden hour light was perfect, the baby was so happy, the cake was colorful and fun. Everything came together beautifully.
